More About Pods
School maths moves fast. A student who’s shaky on the basics doesn’t just struggle with this week’s work - they meet every new topic already behind.
Firing Minds pods fill this gap. Instead of chasing whatever happened in class on Tuesday, we build the handful of foundations that every high school maths topic, from years 7-12 rests on, practise them until they stick, and tie them back to school work each week.
WHy a pod often beats one-to-one
THREE OTHER BRAINS IN THE ROOM
Your child sees how other people get there – someone who spots it instantly, someone who works it out the long way, someone who gets stuck exactly where they were about to. Hearing another twelve-year-old explain it often lands better than hearing an adult explain it again.
NOBODY’S THE ONLY ONE WHO DOESN’T GET IT
Sitting alone with a tutor, every pause is yours. In a pod, a student finds out that three other people also think subtracting a negative is strange. That does more for their confidence than any amount of being told they’re capable.
EXPLAINING IT IS HOW YOU LEARN IT
Pods are built so students talk – comparing answers, diagnosing each other’s mistakes, having a go in pairs. You find out whether you really understand something the moment you have to say it out loud.
SMALL ENOUGH THAT NOBODY DRIFTS
Pods are capped at 4, so every student gets individual tutor time every session, and so a tutor notices the quiet one.
GROUPED BY READINESS
We place students using a short diagnostic entry test, not by school or year-level average, so the level of maths we teach is right for everyone in the room.
DROP-INS HANDLE THE REST
One hour · every Friday · included in term subscription deal only
Pods build the foundations school moves too fast to revisit.
Drop-ins catch whatever’s in front of them this week.
Students post what they’re stuck on, everyone votes, and the tutor works through the questions most people need – then takes individual questions while everyone else works quietly alongside each other.
